The US federal and local grant
programs can provide a significant source of funding to
help get new companies started and achieve their
corporate goals. You need an overview of the various
agencies and programs to determine which the best fit
for your project is and which programs are available for
non-US companies. Chances of success can vary but a
strategic plan can help you increase your chances.
Remember that each program has a specific goal. This
goal can be either science or it can be the
commercialization of a product. We recommend that you
start thinking about a commercialization plan early,
even though each application will also test the
feasibility of your idea. Both these issues will be key
to how you present your overall goal for the project to
match the needs of the granting agency. In this workshop
we will discuss the use of grants to clarify your
commercial potential as well as advancing your science.
The workshop will:
1. Cover the federal funding opportunities to non-U.S.
companies.
2. Explain the structure of a U.S. grant and how it is
different from European applications.
3. Provide insight and tips into what makes a good grant
strategy for obtaining the funds- this includes
targeting the grant and pitching it.
And because practical experience can be very useful, we
will cover in detail how to:
· Identify of critical milestones.
· Develop and implement a grant management plan.
· Leverage academic collaborators to help both of you
succeed.
· Create a culture that utilizes grant opportunities to
it fullest.
· Evaluate criteria with best opportunities for your
work.
